The Trace gathering 08 was something of a mixed blessing.
Firstly our congratulations are extended to Stuart, Jim and Dale for stepping up to the (almost overwhelming) challenge of the “Trace rep” position. They were trusted with teaching and guiding a group of traceurs around the peak district, taking full responsibility for the training patterns and safety of the group. So thank you very much for representing the Lincsparkour community in such a positive and responsible way.
The success of Trace gathering 08 came from its social and training aspects. Lincsparkour arrived first on monday at about 9 and we immediatly set about preparing ourselves for the long week ahead. By the time more traceurs had arrived, several LPK tents had already been set up and the owners were mingling with other communitys and teams from Norwich to the far reaches of south Wales.
For many, Day one was about socialising and light training. The beautiful sunny weather and lack of obstacles suitable for entertaining 250 traceurs, lead to the inevtiable trick off. With the likes of Ryan Doyle and Daniel Ilabaca throwing tricks left right and center, everyone had a brilliant opportunity to observe, learn and participate. Since the park was off limits, those without the desire to trick stretched the boundaries of their creativity through formulating new ways to overcome the single wall that we had access to. When the excitement of training simmered down a little, Jason started a mass game of quadrapedal bulldog in the middle of the field. Those who took part enjoyed it thoroughly and those who did not were certainly entertained by the spectacle. By the end of the first day, things appeared to be going more than well.
I dont think there was a single person that night who was not rudely awakened by the drumming of the intense rainstorm upon every tent. Those of us awake and ready to leave by half pat seven, experienced the true discomfort of preparing breakfast in the rain. Throughout the day, conditions got better and traceurs enjoyed a fun day of training on the peaks.
Another night and more rain later, we experienced a repeat of the day before. The idea of grouping had failed and Traceurs were following any rep they pleased. at the end of the hard days training, many retreated to the local pub “the nags head” for a night of entertainment and drinking.
