Comminty Sessions Going Strong

9 November, 2009

DSC01020This Saturday was a big surprise for me, I wasn’t expecting the community to turn out together in the way that it has. and this is largely due to the open Saturday sessions we are holding at NK

there were so many old faces, and many new ones/ people we haven’t taught in over a year and I’m glad that we have all come back together to practice what we love (in case you missed the point of the blog that’s Parkour/FreeRun)

so after my knee packed in I started taking photo’s of the action and here is what i got :D

Gymnastics for the masses :D

4 November, 2009

Lincs Parkour Has its very own gym!!!

We have been given free reign of the Sleaford Gymnastics club for a Parkour/Freerunning/Gymnastics day of fun.

This session will be on Friday 13th and run from either 3 – 7pm or 4 – 8pm (you will have to let us know which one you prefer here) The cost is £6 for all 4 hours so I think that’s a pretty good deal

This is a tester for a longer running session that would see us having the gym for a 2 hour session a week forever. We just need initial strong numbers to get it going really.

Equipment at the club :  A-bars, Ropes, Parallel bars, Trampoline, High bar, Sprung floor, Vaulting Horses, Tumble track, Beams, Air track , + (foam pit style mats), climbing frames and of course more crashmats than you can shake a stick at.

and the best part of the day is that you can use the equipment in whatever way you see fit, which means tricking, climbing, stretching, conditioning, general silliness etc.

Update:  if this damn blog would let me put the videos up i would show you what it looks like but for some reason it wont let me upload but hopefully soon you will be joining us there to flip trick and train at LincsParkour’s Friday the 13th Gym Session.

Open Gym Sessions

6 October, 2009

Hey guys …
DSC00043
Right, so as it is approaching the winter period with all the nasty british weather going on Dale and I  have decided to make the saturday workshops into open gym sessions.

so what ever you desire to do you may practise it.  From general Parkour movements to creativity flow or tricking, ( yes thats right TRICKING !) then you are more than welcome to come along.
we now have much more equipment,  some sprung floor pannels for tumbling that we can get out etc..

as I was saying the weather is getting worse, nights are getting earlier so if you would like a nice dry place to practise you are more than welcome to come.

HOWEVER there are a few things :DSC00038

there WILL be a 30 minute period at the beginning for a warm up and some conditioning ( 30 minutes isnt asking a lot)

It will cost 3.50 for two hours (this is due to the leisure centre charging, not Dale and I)  we do not get any of your money)

For those who want use the session as an open session that is fine but if there are still beginners out there and still want to come Dale and I  will still be coaching so beginners you are all still welcome smile.gif

im not demanding that people to turn up but if you do get fed up of the wet cold and dark and want to come on in for two hours your more than welcome guys

Love From Stu

Extreme NK Skellingthorpe

27 July, 2009

after a very nice cycle ride along the Fossdyke Canal I arrived in Skellingthorpe hopeful of a day of parkour and sunshine.  but what i arrived to was less than exciting.  our mobile parkour equipment hadn’t arrived,  meaning we had to improvise. luckily thats what we are best at!

we started the session at 1pm, but no one was there because everyone was having fun on the free skate park supplied by Extreme NK,  but when the heavens opened,  people came flooding in to see what this ‘parkour’ was about.

the people who participated were aged between 6 and 12, and only 1 had tried parkour before,  so whilst stuart led them through the warmup, i discussed what parkour is and convinced them that its not just climbing up buildings and jumping off of them. after the warmup we took them through the very basics of parkour, with the roll and safety in movement taking priorty on this day.

the next thing we moved onto was pop vaults, encoraging them to gain as much height on the obstacle then roll on the other side. it worked well. everyone who participated picked up the skills very quickly, and made alot of progress with the joining of movements.

we then moved onto the basic arm jump, where we had set up the pop infront of it. which meant the children had to pop onto the obstacle take a moment to compose themself and take the two footed arm jump onto the ‘wall’. (when i say the wall i mean, a well secured football goalpoast hooked to the wall around 6 feet off the ground)
to make tings more fun as well as challenging/strength conditioning, we made them shimmy/climb across the goalpost avoiding a well placed mat.  this mat was described as “a shark tank, where the sharks swim in fire, and the lid of the tank is made of barbed wire, coated in poison” basically if you didnt complete the arm jump and climb, you would die.

this kindof imaginative thinking put the kids in the mood to challenge eachother to complete the mission.  and as we all know a friendly challenge and indirecly competing with your peers is what its all about.

we ended the session when the sun came out, as we were planning to go outside and teach them on the place parkour was made to be practiced, but people started backing out, so we gave in to (a small) demand for the art of tricking (free running in our case) and decided to help people complete tricks and flips in the relative safety of a gym hall.  we helped people to overcome front and backflip fears.

we then opened it up and offered the kids the choice of using the equipment in any way they wanted, and even with us offering support on the tricks, many of the kids opted for vaults and drops/rolls.

it made us realise that although alot of people think of parkour as the tricking side,  once alot of them experience the flowing movement of parkour and the feeling of bettering yourself,  tricking takes a back seat in their minds.

overall was a good session, it opened our eyes a little bit towards what drives us to do parkour and teach others.

Lincs parkour in the city

1 November, 2008

London city that is! Here is a blow by blow account of this furious ordeal!

After several delays in train service in Lincoln, Spalding and P’borough Adz and I eventually made it to the kings cross station in the heart of London. Unfortunately the heart of London is not the heart of London parkour, instead we needed to head to the city’s south bank where all manner of famous spots used by Urban free flow and 3run can be found. the fastest way around London as you probably know is the London underground, so without further ado we jumped on board and were soon on our way too Waterloo station. On arrival we met up with none other than corks and balance Tim, who had been staying with a friend near London for the week, a nice surprise =). Within the hour we had lost him and did not see him again!

Heading to the nearest burger king we ate a hearty meal and were back on track for training, when suddenly DISASTER STRIKES! Adam had left his camera and MP3 at burger king and we were already 20 minutes away by the time he realised. Sprinting back there was no sign of the lost property. Hopeless, we left the burger king and trudged out of the station, but before we reached the station doors we were met by (Connor) Contrix, one of Urban freeflows sponsored athletes and an awesome guy. Explaining our predicament to him he ushered us back into burger king and demanded to the manager that we see the CCTV footage from that area. Apparently this sparked off something as the camera magically appeared in the hands of a cleaner in seconds, fishy? YES! A majhor relief? certainly! Training with Contrix until dark we witnessed some truly awesome tricking and in the undercover “Tramps kitchen spot”. After parting ways with Connor we found our youth hostel, got some eats and caught up on our sleep. Read the rest of this entry ?

Cherry Willingham – Week 1

7 October, 2008

On week 1 of an 8 week course, we turned up to the school half an hour late due to the legendary Dan Hargreaves van ‘The White Knight’ dying before we set off.

so not an ideal start then, but after we arrived myself and Stuart  found that the school had an abundance of brand new gymnastics equipment, and a free-climb wall for us to use in our sessions. this got us motivated for one of my favourite classes to date. Read the rest of this entry ?

Mary Knox – Week 1

7 October, 2008

This is the Mary Knox educational centre in Lincoln, its main aim is to help pupils who have been suspended or excluded from schools around Lincolnshire.

you would expect these kids to be rowdy and naughty, but when we got there we were treated with nothing but respect (except for a comment made about me being ‘emo’ – I don’t see it myself)

without any prior experience, the kids jumped straight in, focusing on the fundamental basics of Parkour. Read the rest of this entry ?
