Comminty Sessions Going Strong

9 November, 2009

DSC01020This Saturday was a big surprise for me, I wasn’t expecting the community to turn out together in the way that it has. and this is largely due to the open Saturday sessions we are holding at NK

there were so many old faces, and many new ones/ people we haven’t taught in over a year and I’m glad that we have all come back together to practice what we love (in case you missed the point of the blog that’s Parkour/FreeRun)

so after my knee packed in I started taking photo’s of the action and here is what i got :D

Gymnastics for the masses :D

4 November, 2009

Lincs Parkour Has its very own gym!!!

We have been given free reign of the Sleaford Gymnastics club for a Parkour/Freerunning/Gymnastics day of fun.

This session will be on Friday 13th and run from either 3 – 7pm or 4 – 8pm (you will have to let us know which one you prefer here) The cost is £6 for all 4 hours so I think that’s a pretty good deal

This is a tester for a longer running session that would see us having the gym for a 2 hour session a week forever. We just need initial strong numbers to get it going really.

Equipment at the club :  A-bars, Ropes, Parallel bars, Trampoline, High bar, Sprung floor, Vaulting Horses, Tumble track, Beams, Air track , + (foam pit style mats), climbing frames and of course more crashmats than you can shake a stick at.

and the best part of the day is that you can use the equipment in whatever way you see fit, which means tricking, climbing, stretching, conditioning, general silliness etc.

Update:  if this damn blog would let me put the videos up i would show you what it looks like but for some reason it wont let me upload but hopefully soon you will be joining us there to flip trick and train at LincsParkour’s Friday the 13th Gym Session.

Lincs parkour in the city

1 November, 2008

London city that is! Here is a blow by blow account of this furious ordeal!

After several delays in train service in Lincoln, Spalding and P’borough Adz and I eventually made it to the kings cross station in the heart of London. Unfortunately the heart of London is not the heart of London parkour, instead we needed to head to the city’s south bank where all manner of famous spots used by Urban free flow and 3run can be found. the fastest way around London as you probably know is the London underground, so without further ado we jumped on board and were soon on our way too Waterloo station. On arrival we met up with none other than corks and balance Tim, who had been staying with a friend near London for the week, a nice surprise =). Within the hour we had lost him and did not see him again!

Heading to the nearest burger king we ate a hearty meal and were back on track for training, when suddenly DISASTER STRIKES! Adam had left his camera and MP3 at burger king and we were already 20 minutes away by the time he realised. Sprinting back there was no sign of the lost property. Hopeless, we left the burger king and trudged out of the station, but before we reached the station doors we were met by (Connor) Contrix, one of Urban freeflows sponsored athletes and an awesome guy. Explaining our predicament to him he ushered us back into burger king and demanded to the manager that we see the CCTV footage from that area. Apparently this sparked off something as the camera magically appeared in the hands of a cleaner in seconds, fishy? YES! A majhor relief? certainly! Training with Contrix until dark we witnessed some truly awesome tricking and in the undercover “Tramps kitchen spot”. After parting ways with Connor we found our youth hostel, got some eats and caught up on our sleep. Read the rest of this entry ?

Classes/Workshops

26 September, 2008

The thing that everyone wants to hear!

Open classes are coming back very soon, on the 11th October to be exact!

Novice

There will be a new structure to them, with set registers, and set numbers of people per week (no more turn-ups and drop-outs) which means in order to get into them you need to sign up soon.
I will not be running them any more (takes all the stress out) so I can just enjoy the teaching

NOT THESE AWARDS - more like certificates

They will be hosted each and every Saturday for novices, the new name for the beginners class.

Many new activities will be included in the classes and one main thing… AWARDS (bare with me here)

Awards and certificates will be handed out depending on specific criteria related to the discipline of Parkour (not just the physical side)

For more information on how to sign up for the Novice classes please contact:

Extreme NK on 01522 870 252

NEW: Lincs Parkour Shop

31 August, 2008

Well its what you guys have all been waiting for The Lincs Parkour T-shirts are ready and up for sale.

As you can see there is now a new button on the home page that links to the Shop, which is based on Cafepress, an American company, which is renowned for being extremely reliable and having good quality products.

T-shirts cost around £10 each, if you convert the price from Dollars, which considering they are being sent from America is a very good price. Deliveries take a week to ten days.

I ordered a prototype top to test the quality and after receiving it the quality seems very good, after sorting out a few design issues, I have created the final design and they are now on sale.

Hope you enjoy wearing our Name with pride, and remember that’s Lincs Parkours name on the T-shirt, so respect it and don’t do anything that would send out a bad message, especially whilst wearing them haha, but i trust you guys to do well and represent Lincs Parkour well.

Hope to see you all in your LPK gear soon :D

Class Updates

15 August, 2008

This is an update i should have made a while back,

ok, so as you may know by now, you probably know that the saturday classes in lincoln are temporarily off. the official reasoning behind it is “restructuring” whic involves setting class numbers/structures which are still in the planning stages, and insurance situations which would mean that we can teach in public areas outisde which would be nice.

I would like to think there is a summer break to ensure that everyone goes and practices outside in the glorious sunshine (if we ever get any)

The classes will definately be coming back and by definately I mean the ‘beginners classes’ will be coming back, the advanced/community workshops may not!

This is due to challenges from the school about who/when people have been climbing on the rooves, they have discovered the rooftop videos that some people have made whilst waiting for advanced sessions to start. so I may have a lot of negotiations to make before the advanced come back :(
it may end up becoming a once a month thing, which i wouldn’t mind to be honest~

Fluidity

10 August, 2008

Well its a Sunday Afternoon, the sun is shining and all the birds are singing, perfect day to go out and train. However since I’m too hungover to go out and do anything physically constructive, I thought I’d share with you some of my thoughts on the subject of fluidity and the importance of improving this, and my comments on Lincs Parkour’s general training all together.

Sitting at my computer chair on this fine day, i have been watching videos throughout the day, mainly some of the newer Lincs Parkour videos. But also some old classic French videos, and it got me thinking, the likes of the Yamakasi, David Belle all must have started at the same point as every single one of us in Lincs Parkour. However their way of training has lead them to become absolutely fantastic at moving, they are almost completely instinctive, and Parkour is like breathing to them. They can move from one point to another, without pause or hesitation, or even any unnecessary footwork. Now watching our videos, it made me wonder, do we train the right way? Is our training leading us towards their level of competence, or are we training in a way that is hindering our Fluidity in Parkour?

Trace Gathering 08 – Ben’s Experience

6 August, 2008

Well, after a good few days rest after returning from Trace its a nice time to post up on here about it. First of all, I have to say this year, Trace was a bit of a disappointment, and really didn’t live up to my expectations. Not that i didn’t enjoy myself, but compared to last years it was a bit of a downer, especially due to the weather, but also the fact that there was a lot of messing about going on, and the reps were constantly on every ones back for people generally being disrespectful, and selfish. Although I have to point out, these things weren’t necessarily intended this way, some people just needed to think things through twice before doing things. But besides that, on to my experiances at Trace.
