Cherry Willingham – Week 1

7 October, 2008

On week 1 of an 8 week course, we turned up to the school half an hour late due to the legendary Dan Hargreaves van ‘The White Knight’ dying before we set off.

so not an ideal start then, but after we arrived myself and Stuart  found that the school had an abundance of brand new gymnastics equipment, and a free-climb wall for us to use in our sessions. this got us motivated for one of my favourite classes to date.

A couple of the kids had practised what they thought was Parkour for a while. but when when we assessed their ability we found it severely lacking, and after a chat we found that they had never heard of Lincs Parkour, and were aiming to get into a team somewhere in London called adrenaline.

This apparent lack of knowledge gave us the opportunity to teach Parkour the way we wished we could have learnt.

the class was exciting, as we took the guys through basic vaults, drops and rolls, balance and underbars. before allowing some free form creativity on some ‘unexplained obstacles’ which threw up some interesting movements for the guys to develop in the coming weeks.

i am looking forward to going back, and seeing how the guys who practice already have taken on board what we have had to say, and also to see the kids who are starting and how they develop their movements over the coming weeks.

see you next Monday :D
