NEW: Lincs Parkour Shop

31 August, 2008

Well its what you guys have all been waiting for The Lincs Parkour T-shirts are ready and up for sale.

As you can see there is now a new button on the home page that links to the Shop, which is based on Cafepress, an American company, which is renowned for being extremely reliable and having good quality products.

T-shirts cost around £10 each, if you convert the price from Dollars, which considering they are being sent from America is a very good price. Deliveries take a week to ten days.

I ordered a prototype top to test the quality and after receiving it the quality seems very good, after sorting out a few design issues, I have created the final design and they are now on sale.

Hope you enjoy wearing our Name with pride, and remember that’s Lincs Parkours name on the T-shirt, so respect it and don’t do anything that would send out a bad message, especially whilst wearing them haha, but i trust you guys to do well and represent Lincs Parkour well.

Hope to see you all in your LPK gear soon :D

News Updates/Reveals

15 August, 2008

I thought i would like to keep everyone updated on the stuff thats going on behind the scenes that some people may not see, so here is a bit of behind the scenes/public info for you all

The Lincs Parkour community’s main page has been updated, and changed to a sweet new design by Ben Christian (Jammie) features links back to the blog, an updated portfolio, and a featured video section, for keeping up to date with the communitys video productions.

Trace: many of you attended the Trace Gathering in the Peak district, and if you were there you may have noticed that myself and Stuart have been introduced into the trace ranks. it is an honor to be held in such high regard as to join members of trace such as Jin, Blake and Cable, and Danny Ilabaca. I look forward to working with trace in the future, and all the exciting developments set to come in the future.

Clothing: we are looking into providing Trace Clothing direct through Lincs Parkour, and hopefully this could mean dicounts on the products, and eventually customised clothing for the community. (updates coming soon)

There are several new classes starting in september to add to the current classes in Christ Hospital School, and DeAston in Rasen. City School is aiming to have parkour classes hosted by us, and currently we are running summer classes in Sleaford. There are also classes to be introduced alongside gymnastics in Manby on the east coast and the Extreme Nk event in Sleaford on the 27th of August looks to be an exciting event with climbing, skateboarding, parkour and some inflatable water things.

A one off 2 day event is being hosted by Extreme NK, at the end of the month, for more info on attending the class contact extremenk@leisureconnection.co.uk

That’s all I have for now, feel free to comment, I will try to get back to everyone as quick as possible, keep checking back for updates for more info

PS: I hope you like Mars Bars ;-)

Class Updates

15 August, 2008

This is an update i should have made a while back,

ok, so as you may know by now, you probably know that the saturday classes in lincoln are temporarily off. the official reasoning behind it is “restructuring” whic involves setting class numbers/structures which are still in the planning stages, and insurance situations which would mean that we can teach in public areas outisde which would be nice.

I would like to think there is a summer break to ensure that everyone goes and practices outside in the glorious sunshine (if we ever get any)

The classes will definately be coming back and by definately I mean the ‘beginners classes’ will be coming back, the advanced/community workshops may not!

This is due to challenges from the school about who/when people have been climbing on the rooves, they have discovered the rooftop videos that some people have made whilst waiting for advanced sessions to start. so I may have a lot of negotiations to make before the advanced come back :(
it may end up becoming a once a month thing, which i wouldn’t mind to be honest~

Parkour North America Podcasts

14 August, 2008

so, after teaching a marathon 8 hour session with Stuart on Monday, i got home to shower, eat, play PlayStation, sort out laundry, you know the usual. but instead i ended up taking a relaxing bath, and started browsing pod casts on my phone.

on a whim i typed in parkour not expecting any results to come up, but one did!

it was the Parkour North America Radio show, surprised and intrigued i downloaded the latest show to have a listen, and boy was i surprised.

i was wondering exactly what they could possibly be talking about for 1 hour 13 minutes, and boy was i surprised. these guys seem to be well connected in the worldwide parkour community, especially with the french.
in the latest episode, they discussed parkour.net’s closure, revealing some details that i didn’t know, David Belle’s authority in Parkour, PAWA’s demise, martial arts impact on parkour training as well as having an exclusive parkour rap on there. Read the rest of this entry ?

Trace Gathering 08-Johnny’s Experience

11 August, 2008

The Trace gathering 08 was something of a mixed blessing.

Firstly our congratulations are extended to Stuart, Jim and Dale for stepping up to the (almost overwhelming) challenge of the “Trace rep” position. They were trusted with teaching and guiding a group of traceurs around the peak district, taking full responsibility for the training patterns and safety of the group. So thank you very much for representing the Lincsparkour community in such a positive and responsible way.

The success of Trace gathering 08 came from its social and training aspects. Lincsparkour arrived first on monday at about 9 and we immediatly set about preparing ourselves for the long week ahead. By the time more traceurs had arrived, several LPK tents had already been set up and the owners were mingling with other communitys and teams from Norwich to the far reaches of south Wales.

For many, Day one was about socialising and light training. The beautiful sunny weather and lack of obstacles suitable for entertaining 250 traceurs, lead to the inevtiable trick off. With the likes of Ryan Doyle and Daniel Ilabaca throwing tricks left right and center, everyone had a brilliant opportunity to observe, learn and participate. Since the park was off limits, those without the desire to trick stretched the boundaries of their creativity through formulating new ways to overcome the single wall that we had access to. When the excitement of training simmered down a little, Jason started a mass game of quadrapedal bulldog in the middle of the field. Those who took part enjoyed it thoroughly and those who did not were certainly entertained by the spectacle. By the end of the first day, things appeared to be going more than well.

I dont think there was a single person that night who was not rudely awakened by the drumming of the intense rainstorm upon every tent. Those of us awake and ready to leave by half pat seven, experienced the true discomfort of preparing breakfast in the rain. Throughout the day, conditions got better and traceurs enjoyed a fun day of training on the peaks.

Another night and more rain later, we experienced a repeat of the day before. The idea of grouping had failed and Traceurs were following any rep they pleased. at the end of the hard days training, many retreated to the local pub “the nags head” for a night of entertainment and drinking.

to be continued…

Fluidity

10 August, 2008

Well its a Sunday Afternoon, the sun is shining and all the birds are singing, perfect day to go out and train. However since I’m too hungover to go out and do anything physically constructive, I thought I’d share with you some of my thoughts on the subject of fluidity and the importance of improving this, and my comments on Lincs Parkour’s general training all together.

Sitting at my computer chair on this fine day, i have been watching videos throughout the day, mainly some of the newer Lincs Parkour videos. But also some old classic French videos, and it got me thinking, the likes of the Yamakasi, David Belle all must have started at the same point as every single one of us in Lincs Parkour. However their way of training has lead them to become absolutely fantastic at moving, they are almost completely instinctive, and Parkour is like breathing to them. They can move from one point to another, without pause or hesitation, or even any unnecessary footwork. Now watching our videos, it made me wonder, do we train the right way? Is our training leading us towards their level of competence, or are we training in a way that is hindering our Fluidity in Parkour?

Barefoot Training/Running

10 August, 2008

As some of you may know, but most probably won’t, I like to do my fair share of running and training with no shoes on. I began this around the start of the year, inspired by Luke Mcguire and the video from Phillip Doyle, and saw it as a great thing to implement into my training.

Recently it has become a larger part of my training, and the source of many discussions between myself and members of Sydney Parkour (who can see the benefits), as well as ignorant school friends who love their new, highly cushioned shoes, and think I am a fool for running barefoot.

I am going to start off with advocating the practise of barefoot training and running, and some of the successes I have had.

Firstly barefoot training/running is a good way of conditioning the foot, ankle, calf, shin and thigh muscles and ligaments – provided the correct technique is used – and I find it helps to sort out many niggling injuries, as well as strengthening the arches of the foot. I used to have a little knee/shin problem, caused mainly by not warming up fully, and from weak shins and calves. After some rest I decided to go running barefoot and train barefoot a bit more, to teach me to really limit the impact. Since then I havent had any problems, and it seems to have sorted itself out. Friday: The Birds, The Money and THE GUNS!

9 August, 2008

Its that time again for another blog post!

As some of you may know, there are weekly Gym Sessions in Sleaford at Northgate Sports Centre now just beginning their 6 week run. At the moment it seems to be only open to special groups, and summer activity camps, which means we should be getting a new load of kids every week. This friday marked the first of these sessions, and despite the lack of basic equipment, we were able to teach the kids, a good few basics, and even get them working on runs. One of the most refreshing sights was seeing a little girl called Hope, just drilling her precisions trying to perfect them, which was really nice to see compared to a lot of kids who would just jump then carry on.

Trace Gathering 08 – Ben’s Experience

6 August, 2008

Well, after a good few days rest after returning from Trace its a nice time to post up on here about it. First of all, I have to say this year, Trace was a bit of a disappointment, and really didn’t live up to my expectations. Not that i didn’t enjoy myself, but compared to last years it was a bit of a downer, especially due to the weather, but also the fact that there was a lot of messing about going on, and the reps were constantly on every ones back for people generally being disrespectful, and selfish. Although I have to point out, these things weren’t necessarily intended this way, some people just needed to think things through twice before doing things. But besides that, on to my experiances at Trace.
