Parkour for me… a summary

22 July, 2008

I have discovered that Parkour isn’t just about demanding your body to do random jumps and flips whenever I feel it’s necessary, it’s a much more mental sport that requires strength, agility and confidence.

At first Parkour is almost like walking into a foreign country…you see more experienced members trying out much more dangerous things…you see people acting crazy and doing incredible things that require a huge amount of effort and strength…it’s hard to believe that once, all the Traceurs you’re looking at started at the same point that you are…but all the results come with dedication, commitment and determination.

Very advanced Parkour requires a lot of strength…something that I do not have yet…It also enables people to break barriers physically and mentally. Even simple vaults surprised me because, before I would have seen an obstacle as something that I am stuck behind, but now I see an obstacle as something that I can try to overcome…

Too many people outside the world of Parkour think that Traceurs are just cluttering up places, when in fact, it is a hobby and a sport! People need to either give us a place to train or just let us train on existing buildings and areas!… Any Traceurs reading this already know and possibly agree with everything I have just written but, this is aimed at people who are new to Parkour or are interested in practicing the discipline.

For the record…Parkour isn’t all about thinking deep and being all particular about everything…Its just loads of fun! Everyone you meet at LincsParkour are ace! They will willingly teach you anything you want to know and they will teach it to a high standard. Be prepared though…the banter you will receive if you are female is quite funny yet often related to your physical appearance..i.e…Boobs…Bum…and Muscles!!

Anyway..Parkour is something that I can actually say has thoroughly benefited me..I have met loads of new people…I look at buildings in a completely different way..my mental and physical strength is slowly increasing…and I’m generally more determined in everything I do both within and outside of Parkour.

LincsParkour is a kind of community or organisation that is basically made up of people that share the same interest in an activity…Parkour…There are more advanced and more experienced members but there really is no need to be scared..Parkour is definitely something that many people really enjoy! Nobody meets up in town to have a go at people because they are less experienced in Parkour! You have to start somewhere!

You can take things at your own pace…!

So my summary is a kind of advert of Parkour…but people need to know about it and become involved!
I assure you…you will love it!
